State health department authorities in Minnesota have charged a nursing home in Hopkins, Minnesota with neglect for failing to properly monitor one of their patient’s nutrition.
Officials investigated the nursing home, Golden Living Center, and its staff, and found that the patient’s nutrition and health were not watched for 2 months, causing him to suffer from malnutrition and become seriously underweight and dehydrated.
In weeks, the patient lost 30 pounds and had to go to the hospital, where he later died. Medical examiners found the cause of death to be pneumonia, but said that dehydration was also a factor.
